The Wonders of Body Oil

Just like body butter, body oil typically contains plant-based oils meant to lock in moisture and mimic your natural body oils, which help repair and regulate the skin’s moisture-barrier responsible for oil production. As time goes, your skin’s ability to retain moisture may change, so switching to body oil may be the solution to restore your skin to its optimum health. Body oils are meant to quickly absorb into your skin and are mainly composed of carrier oils.

A carrier oil is a base oil that dilutes essential oils for topical application, as essential oils are highly potent.  Carrier oils can be derived from vegetable oils, seeds, nuts, or kernels. Carrier oils stay longer on the skin, allowing you to reap the full benefits of their health properties.

Body oils are incredibly nourishing to your skin. They are light-weight and make a perfect post-shower moisturizer for smooth, supple skin. Body oils have a locking and protective nature; so they’ll keep your skin supple and smooth all summer long. They’re the perfect addition to your summer glow goals for your skin. We love them because they pair well with body butters—especially during winter—so that you get the full benefits of all combined plant oils in one.

When you use body oil as part of your skin care regimen, your skin is sure to benefit in the following ways:

  • Improved skin texture
  • Help fade the appearance of scars and stretch marks
  • Help restore and lock-in moisture into your skin all year round
  • Antioxidants help brighten up your skin’s complexion and can help minimize skin damage

Body oils are versatile. If you love to give (or receive) massages, they make great massage oils. Some are specific for massage therapy, and contain therapeutic essential oils that help with pain relief and better sleep (as they have calming, relaxing effects).

Expectant mothers can use these oils to help eliminate stretch marks (if they so choose); have a relaxing spa like experience, or use them to help soothe body aches. Always read labels and see if oils are safe to use while pregnant.

Always remember that a little goes a long way. With continued use, body oils can transform dry, dull skin, to smooth, glowing even skin. They are a great addition to your body care routine, as they offer a plethora of benefits that are essential to the health and appearance of the largest organ on your body!
